CWL of Lower North Thompson

“The Catholic Women’s League (CWL) of Canada is a national organization rooted in Gospel values calling its members to holiness through service to the people of God.”  In June of 1961 The Catholic Woman’s League of the Lower North Thompson was formed when 11 Ladies met at St.  George’s Church in Barriere where their first election was held. The woman who founded this council came from Chu Chua, Brennan Creek, and Squam Bay.  Between 1964-1966 several women from Clearwater joined in, until they could form their own council in 1966.  Over the 60 years several of the women have served at both the Diocesan and Provincial levels of the CWL in positions of President and Secretary.

These women have been very active in parish life, both spiritually as well as in service to our parish and the community at large.  The CWL women support many local charities including the local food bank, the Pregnancy Care Centre in Kamloops, Development and Peace, Pro-Life, a mission school in Sri Lanka, and a family in India, as well as an annual bursary presented at Barriere Secondary School.  The fall fair and Rodeo Pageant has seen a number of the girls sponsored.
